Here’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. What do you think about this?
Let me know.

Summer, at last

What does summer mean to you? What do you look forward to, all year? Going to the beach? Skateboarding? Reading lots of books? Sleeping late?

For me, summer is my most intensive writing time. All three of my kids go to camp for four weeks, and I have seven hours a day to write. Seven hours! What could you write in seven hours? Have you ever tried to write for that long?

If I stay focused, I can usually write about 2,500 words in seven hours. That's about ten pages of double-spaced writing. By the end of July, I'm hoping to have the last 200 pages of my novel written. This is a novel I've been working on, off and on, for over five years.

Seven hours of writing.

2,500 words a day.

My novel—finished.

This is what summer means to me.

What do you think? Let me know.
